FILTER FAQS

Filter coffee is brewed by passing hot water slowly through ground coffee, in a V60, cafetiere, AeroPress, Chemex or drip machine. The result is a longer, lighter cup than espresso, with more clarity and nuance. Espresso uses high pressure and very fine grounds for a short, concentrated extraction. Neither is better, they're just different experiences. Filter tends to reward beans with more delicate, complex flavour profiles; espresso rewards boldness and body.

Our filter range is built specifically for these methods. The HOUSE filter is a brilliant go-to for all filter methods, smooth, fruity and reliable. For V60 and Chemex especially, our single origin coffees are worth exploring: La Cabana and Aracacu both have the kind of clarity and brightness that filter brewing brings out beautifully.

Yes, our filter coffees work well in both. For a cafetière, use a coarser grind and steep for around four minutes. For a drip machine, our pre-ground filter option is ready to use straight from the bag. House Filter is our most versatile choice and works well across these methods.

Two very different cups. The HOUSE Filter is a medium roast that is smooth, fruity and bright, with a clean finish. It is a great choice for all-day drinking.

The Dark Roast Filter is fuller-bodied, with developed chocolate and malt notes and lower acidity. If you prefer filter coffee with more weight and intensity, the Dark Roast is worth trying.

Not sure which to choose? Start with the HOUSE Filter. It is our most popular for a reason.

By concentration, no, espresso is far more concentrated. By total caffeine per cup, it depends. A standard 250ml filter coffee can contain similar or more total caffeine than a single espresso shot, simply because more coffee is used in the total brew. But you'd never know from the taste, filter is smoother and less intense, even if the caffeine adds up over a longer cup.

Yes, our Decaf Filter is made using the Swiss Water® Process, which removes 99.9% of caffeine using only water. No chemicals, no shortcuts. Same smooth, flavourful cup, just without the caffeine. Available as whole beans or pre-ground.

Same rules as any coffee, cool, dry, away from direct sunlight and strong smells (coffee absorbs them readily). For whole beans, reseal the bag and use within 4–6 weeks. For ground coffee, aim to use within 2–3 weeks, grounds lose freshness faster than beans. No freezer necessary.
