MEET NOELLA

The 1st baby born at the Hospital of Hope

Noella Mweragi is a young 3-year-old, living on Idjwi Island in Eastern Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). Noella (meaning “Christmas”) was the first baby to be born, on 26th Dec 2020, at the newly opened Hospital of Hope, the first of it’s kind on the island. The fifth child of her parents Furaha and David, before Noella less than 50% of pregnancies on the island made it to successful delivery. Since Noella’s birth, over 4, 000 other babies have been safely welcomed at the hospital. However, whilst Noella’s birth marked the start of a remarkable mission, more needs to be done to save lives on the Island. That is why we have created this little bear in her honour, to help raise the funds needed to to expand the critical care of the medical provision on Idjwi.
