MEET FESTIVE SPIRIT

Every year we release FESTIVE SPIRIT, our seasonal winter blend. Named to capture the progressive warmth, kindness and joy of the holiday season. Each year we choose community-and purpose-focused producers to help bring this spirit to life, in and out of your cup.

This year’s blend brings together two coffees from different parts of the world: Coope Tarrazú in Costa Rica and Kinini in Rwanda. Two inspiring cooperatives supporting community initiatives that protect childhood and safeguard joy of children within coffee-growing communities.

In the cup, expect a juicy, well-rounded coffee with sweet winter berry and crisp citrus notes.

  • Kinini, Rwanda

    Kinini, sourced from the Kinini Washing Station in Rwanda, is an anaerobically-processed coffee offering a bright cup with notes of blueberry and blackberry. Its smooth, sweet finish reveals a delicate tanginess and floral character, reminiscent of pomegranate and lavender.

  • Coope Tarrazú, Costa Rica

    Coope Tarrazù, sourced from the San Francisco community in Costa Rica, is a naturally-processed coffee delivering a juicy and complex cup with medium body and sweet notes of toffee apples, candied violets and blackberry compote.

Meet our seasonal producers

Every seasonal blend begins with the people behind the coffee. This year, we’re returning to two inspiring cooperatives: Coope Tarrazù in Costa Rica and Kinini in Rwanda

Meet Kinini

Kinini meaning ‘this big thing right here’ is based in Rwanda’s Rulindo district, partnering with 600 smallholder farmers across 252 hectares in the Rusiga and Mbogo regions and producing internationally recognised speciality coffees. Founded in 2012 by Jacqueline and Malcolm, the cooperative was created to provide sustainable income for the coffee-growing communities while supporting their charity A New Beginning. 

With women making up 85% of its members, Kinini is dedicated to empowering vulnerable women, and creating safer, brighter futures for their children and orphans. Through its partnership with A New Beginning, 10% of coffee revenue is directly reinvested in the local community and has funded local infrastructure like roads, schools and coffee cherry collection points. Its community initiatives also include a school providing education for over 300 local children aged 4-11, alongside access to maternity and general healthcare. 

Meet Coope Tarrazú

Founded in 1960, Coope Tarrazú is based in Costa Rica and represents over 5,000 coffee-producing members. Alongside producing some of the country’s most recognised coffees, the cooperative invests in renewable energy, water conservation and biodiversity protection, while supporting local education and childcare programmes that safeguard children within coffee-growing communities. 

This year’s blend features a naturally processed coffee from the San Francisco community within the Tarrazú region. Through its Community Lots project, Coope Tarrazú members direct coffee premiums towards local initiatives, including Casa de la Algeria (‘Houses of Joy’), a childcare programme providing safe, nurturing spaces for the children of migrant coffee-picking families while their parents work.
